NOVA SCOTIA GOALTENDER ACADEMY

IN THE CREASE

The Nova Scotia Goaltender Academy is pleased to showcase some goaltenders who have trained with the NSGA over the past several years, many who have succeeded in realizing their dreams of playing at the major junior, university, and professional levels including the NHL.

Along with our goaltender showcase, check out the stories and updates of various NSGA students and goalies taught by Scott and Patrick, who have been achieving significant success in their careers.

- "Be A Player" Series to Feature Goaltending

NSGA - Showing How It's Done!

When EastLink Television was looking to include goalies in their "Be a Player" series, they knew just who they needed to call.  NSGA directors (Patrick Dallaire (left) and Scott Gouthro (right) pictured with Eastlink Television's own Matt Beardsley) are known for their highly technical training methods, so who better to call upon to demonstrate the fine points of playing goaltender?

Together, Scott and Patrick assembled a small group of goaltenders at Cole Harbour Place that they felt would be representative of the range of students they teach.  And as always, they made sure the goalies were challenged by using top quality shooters such as Brad Marchand, Andrew Bodnarchuk, Bryce Swan, and Graham Bona.  After a long day, filming finished up with some great clips that will feature proper execution of the fundementals that distinguish great goalies from average ones.

The NSGA would like to that everyone who participated in this effort, including all the goalies, shooters, the Eastlink Television crew, and the staff at Cole Harbour Place.

Delmas second round draft pick by Avs

Peter Delmas was selected 61st overall in Saturday's NHL Draft.  Delmas was the only Nova Scotian selected in this year's draft, and it was became obvious that Colorado wanted to make sure that they could get him.

'The Avs wanted Delmas so badly they pulled off a trade on the draft floor to make sure they got him. They dealt forward Brad Richardson to the Los Angeles Kings to get the pick they used to select Delmas.

"It was the last pick in the second round and they traded up to get the pick so that also means something to me. It’s quite the honour to see that they did that," Delmas said.' ( source www.thechronicleherald.ca)

Congratulations Peter on your success from all of us here at the NSGA!

Dear NSGA,

Just want to take this opportunity to say thanks to Pat and Scott for everything they have done for me. I especially want to thank Pat for all the early mornings we spent working together trying to get me to the next level.

The NSGA program demonstrates that they can develop goaltenders to play at the highest levels, and I am proof of that.

I can't thank Pat and Scott enough, they have pushed me and I have them to thank. They are the main reason I am where I am today. Getting drafted is just the first step, but it’s a big step and Pat and Scott have been there to help me make the jump from Midget to Junior, and hopefully one day to the NHL.

 Thanks for everything,

Peter Delmas

Leclaire Shines at World Championships

"HALIFAX – Dany Heatley continued to rewrite Hockey Canada's record book as Canada scored a 7-0 victory over Latvia on Sunday for its second straight win at the 2008 IIHF World Championship.

Goaltender Pascal Leclaire, who played three years of Major Junior hockey with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior League, got the win. Leclaire didn't have a busy night but he was brilliant early in the third to preserve the shutout."

Crowds have appreciated seeing their former Mooseheads star back in action at the Metro Centre.  After games, crowds wait for autographs and pictures, where Pascal is generous giving time to his fans.

FEATURED STUDENT - June 2008

Andrew Sidey

Dartmouth Subways Major Midget

When did you start playing goalie?

I've been playing in goal for 9 years.

Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?

My pre-game ritual consists of taping my stick, playing hacky sac, going for a run, stretching, using a reaction ball and visualizing the game.

Who do you admire as a goaltender?

The NHL goalie I admire the most is Carey Price, I like his laid back yet competitive attitude and I admire his strong technique.

If you could achieve anything in hockey, what would it be?

This season I just want to keep working hard to improve on all aspects of my game. In the future, I want to play and be successful at the highest level possible.

This will be my third time at the NSGA. They always push you and create an intense camp. The conditioning is great and you learn many different exercises for both on ice and off ice training. I found that the NSGA has really improved my skating ability and technique. Patrick and Scott are excellent instructors and I am looking forward to this year's camp.
